Manchester City Sets New Premier League Home Winning Record

In a historic feat, Manchester City has shattered the record for the longest home winning streak in Premier League history across all competitions. Their momentous 2-1 victory over Brighton on a Saturday marked their 21st consecutive home win, surpassing the previous record held by Manchester United. City's remarkable run at home remains unblemished since their last defeat, a 2-1 loss to Brentford in the Premier League, which occurred in November of the previous year. If they secure wins against Bournemouth and Young Boys in their upcoming two matches at the Etihad, this astonishing streak will extend to a full year.

City's triumphant response to two consecutive away losses to Arsenal and Wolves was a nervy but ultimately successful encounter against Brighton. The hosts dominated the first half, securing the lead through goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland. However, their failure to capitalize on their early dominance nearly cost them as Ansu Fati scored for the visitors in the 73rd minute, setting the stage for a tense closing period. The situation worsened when Manuel Akanji received a second yellow card and was sent off deep into stoppage time.

Following this crucial victory, Manchester City ascended to the top spot in the Premier League, at least temporarily, awaiting the outcome of Arsenal's clash with Chelsea and Tottenham's home fixture against Fulham on Monday. Notably, the treble-winning City side has not suffered three consecutive Premier League defeats since 2016 during Manuel Pellegrini's tenure.

Pep Guardiola, the astute manager of Manchester City, has maintained an impressive record, having not experienced three successive domestic league losses since 2015, during his tenure at Bayern Munich. Furthermore, Guardiola reached a significant milestone by surpassing Sir Alex Ferguson's record for the most Champions League wins in October, during a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig. This achievement underscores Guardiola's exceptional leadership and the continued success of Manchester City on both domestic and international fronts.
